Basel vs Schalke betting tips 1 October 2013 Champions League By Gustav

Basel vs Schalke betting tips 1 October 2013 Champions League: "Basel managed to make the biggest surprise in the first round of Champions League as they defeated Chelsea away from home with the score of 2:1. Surprise to be bigger, they were losing at the half-time with a goal conceded from Oscar just before the half-time whistle, but bounced back with two goals Salah and Streller in last twenty minutes of the game."

However, it must be said that Chelsea had a bit more of the play, but the Swiss side was very competitive during the whole game and have taken the three pointer, although it might be a bit more fair if the final result was a draw. In any way, they made a great surprise for their fans, but whole Europe too, as the team used good momentum and continued with two more victories in domestic league, while they made a 2:2 draw at home against Sion on Sunday evening, probably being already to this match in their heads. Now, surely their targets got much bigger and with a victory here they would be much more closer to the second phase of Champions League.

Central defender Fabian Schar (9/2 in domestic league) was forced to go off the pitch on Saturday evening, while his participation remains questionable for tonight’s game. In case he doesn’t recover in time, Argentinian Gaston Sauro will take his place. Otherwise, the team should be unchanged to the one that won over Chelsea two weeks ago with a 4-4-1-1 formation.

Schalke, on the other side, won convincingly over Steaua at home 3:0 in their first match of this season’s Champions League edition. Although the Romanian side remained quite competitive for the whole game, the Germans still got a valuable victory with three goals into the second half, scored by Uchida (67th minute), Boateng (78th) and Draxler in 85th minute of the match.

Even though the start in Champions League was a perfect one, team continued with unstable performances in Bundesliga having now 2-2-3 record and being only three points away from the relegation places. Although their performances in Bundesliga are making their atmosphere a bit heavy at the moment, no doubt that the team is awaiting this match eager to win and improve the morale in front of very important domestic duties too. Visitors will have once again plenty of players injured, as newest absentee is left defender Fuchs (3/0 in Bundesliga). Central defender Papadopoulos, midfielders Annan, Obasi are all long term absentee without participation this season, while striker Huntelaar (2/2) is also out for weeks. Furthermore, offensive midfielder Draxler (6/1) is doubtful for tonight’s game.

Basel have scored at least two goals in their last four matches in the Champions League.
Schalke are undefeated in ten of their last eleven matches in the Champions League.
Basel is playing very openly, especially at home while the German side has defensive problems from the start of the season. Swiss side, full of confidence will surely try to get the victory and will start attacking from the first minute, making the game very open in which both sides should have plenty of chances to score.

Bet: Over 2.5 goals
