Maribor was eliminated from the Champions League play-off round from the Czech side Viktoria Plzen with a 1:4 aggregate score, but they will be able to play in Europa League group stage which is still quite a success for them. They were inferior to their opponent in many phases during both matches and had many defensive gaps, while Plzen got qualified more than fairly.
In comparison to previous season, biggest difference in the team is that the coach got changed for the Slovenian side as their successful previous coach Darko Milanic took Austrian side Sturm Graz and was replaced by Croatian Ante Cacic who had previous success in his country. Their roster didn’t change much, while they tried to improve it during the Summer transfer period. Start in the league was good for them as they currently hold the first position with three points more than second placed Zavrc. Coach has said that they begin the new Europa League campaign with enthusiasm, saying that Rubin is a great team and that probably their own performance will decide the game, he admitted honestly.
Important midfielder Mezga remains injured and will not be counted, while the offensive duo will be Tavares-Mendy in a 4-4-2 formation, while the team is expected to defend more as the game passes.Rubin Kazan excluded Serbian side Jagodina, Danish Randers and Norwegian side Molde in order to find their place in the Europa League group stage. They earned all six victories, basing their performance on counter attacks and scoring relatively easily in all matches they played during the qualifying progress.
However, the team has started the Russian championship in a very moderate way as they have two victories and six draws in first eight matches. They are the only undefeated team in the league, together with leaders from CSKA, but are also already six points behind that and nobody is happy with too many draws. Their roster wasn’t strengthened as expected during Summer, but uniformity and good atmosphere inside the locker room remain their qualities. Substitute players, central defender Abishov and forward Mukhametshin are not included into the roster due their injuries, while the team is expected to play in a 3-6-1 formation with Rondon at the top of attack.
Rubin is undefeated in all (fourteen) official matches this season.
Maribor has some quality and experience in Europe, but in case Rubin takes them anything close to serious, Russian side should get quite an easy victory in a game they shouldn’t fail in case they want one of two first positions.
Bet: Rubin Wins
