The enigma that is Paulo Di Canio, received the sack not long after his post match antics last weekend. For those who don’t know, after the whistle he proceeded to walk towards the travelling Sunderland fans and amongst over things tell them to keep their chin up. Whatever your opinion is on the matter, the fact is that the players certainly didn’t like it. This led to revolt and not long after the board dubiously obliged to their wishes, he then became the first manager to bite the bullet this season. In Kevin Ball’s first game in charge, he faced in-form (albeit lower league) opposition. A cupset was on the cards with bookies and tipsters alike, but he steered them clear of embarrassment and they sailed through into the fourth round at the expense of Peterborough, thanks to a 2-0 win. Since then, Kevin Ball has come out and said publicly he is interested in the full time position. I don’t think that they will get all three points in the match but I do believe he and his players have a point to prove. A win on Sunday would certainly help stake his claim but against Liverpool they face a team filled with attacking outlets, bolstered ever more by the addition of Luis Suarez. Although he didn’t score midweek, he did look dangerous on a few occasions and you cant help but feel with every match his sharpness will return. I expect him to get a few opportunities against a team who have a goal difference of -8, and in the past he has shown he only needs half a chance to find the back of the net. With Sturridge in fine form he will be keen to find his shooting boots sooner rather then later ,as there is more competition for places on Merseyside these days.
